           Dr. Hulbert's Retirement Plan

 

           To My Patients,

 

I obtained my doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 1986, making this my 40th year of professional practice.  For quite some time it has been my plan to retire when I turned 70, which will happen in April, 2027.  Therefore, May1, 2027 will be the date of my retirement. 

 

The timing of this letter is intended to give ample time to prepare for this change.  As the date approaches, please discuss this matter in your sessions.  If you have no appointment scheduled, please feel free to e-mail your intentions at: tahulbert@aol.com.  In general, I expect that most will choose one of the following two options:

 

1) Accept referral to another provider.  I will curate referral options, and once you choose a new provider, I will send them a letter with background history and treatment information; or

​

2) End your psychotherapy on or before April, 2027, and plan not to continue.

 

My intention at this time is only to provide generous advance notice.  I will be inquiring as to everyone’s plans as we get closer to May, 2027.

Dr. Hulbert's pager discontinued

 

Dr. Hulbert maintained a pager for urgent communication for decades.  It was discontinued at the end of 2024.  For urgent communications, text him at 248-885-6060.

 

         Fees Increased

 

Scheerbert Psychological did not increase fees for many years.  However, the practice was awarded a “value-based uplift” in reimbursements from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in 2024, 2025, and again in 2026 for its commercial insurance plans.  In order to receive this uplift, were required to bill at a higher level.  Therefore, in April, 2024, rates for all services provided were increased.  This fee increase will have different effects depending on your insurance and plan:

• If you have a deductible with your visit, you will pay more only until the deductible is met;

• If you have co-insurance with your visit (a percentage of the fee), your co-insurance amount will increase by that percentage;

• If you have a copay with your visit, what you pay may not change at all;

• For those with insurance plans, you will see minimal additional differences, since the "approved amount" for each insurer is set by the insurer, not by Scheerbert Psychological.

The new fee structure is as follows:

• 90832 (half-hour session): $110.00;

• 90834 (45-minute session): $145.00;

• 90837 (one-hour session): $215.00;

• 90847, 90846 (family session with or without patient present): $175.00;

• 90791 (new patient evaluation): $245.00.

 IF any patient experiences hardship due to the fee increase, please request a discussion with your therapist to discuss possible solutions.

Health Note:

Covid-19, influenza, RSV, and colds are endemic, and continue to infect people.  We will, and we ask you to please wear a face mask over the mouth and nose, or better yet, attend an appointment remotely, if you have any symptoms of illness.  Masks are available, either in the lobby or in your therapist's office, at all times.
